Blake introducing Mary Beth Mary Beth displays her natural talent Sandy & Erica enjoying this way too much
| Okay, this is my very first "My Take" feature and I want to thank Tasha Ball (aka TashaDoesTulsa.com) for giving me the idea to attend the bookclub. Let's face it, I'm not a real social type of guy and I actually don't like doing lunches much because with being deaf in my left ear and having a bad case of tinnitis, I usually find luncheons to be pretty annoying for me. However, today was a great exception to the typical unpleasant lunch that I have with other people. Having read on Tasha's blog last night that there was a bookclub meeting at Joe Momma's Pizza, I felt very eager to attend and see what types of people attend a bookclub. Alright, I know that I probably should have paid a bit more attention to what this bookclub was all about because I had this thought in the back of my mind that I would be sitting in the midst of many exciting men and women that were highly educated and very involved in the business world, especially when I had read that Mary Beth Babcock from Dwelling Spaces would be reading. I have to add that I actually met Mary Beth earlier this week when I popped into her shop, so I was very prepared to hear whatever she was going to present. If you haven't grasped the main point to my story from what you have read so far, hang in there - it's coming! Well, I arrived around 11:00 at Joe Momma's. Since I had never been there before, I wanted to get a perfect seat to be able to hear Mary Beth. I was seated up near the front and was asked, "You do know that this is for children, don't you?" I almost laughed! In the back of my mind, the bad Rick was saying, "Hey, you won't like this! Leave while you can!!" However, the good Rick was responding, "Stick around, enjoy the pizza and see what transpires. Besides, you want to do something different in 2010 by getting out and doing some new things and meeting some new people. Plus, if you leave, what will you write as your first "My Take?" So, I stayed and I must say that I had a very good time! It was such a delight to see so many children having fun eating pizza, listening to Mary Beth read to them and afterwards experiencing the pizza dough firsthand. As you can see by some of the photos on the left, it was quite a time. I was very impressed and I now know why Tasha had stated that this event was one of her favorites. I have to agree with her and I can't believe that I'm writing it, but I had a great time and I think I may have even made a few new friends. This is Rick Rose and thanks for visiting my very first "My Take" here at ThisIsTulsa.com. |
