American Legion Headquarters

The Defense Commissary Agency, headquartered at Fort Lee, VA, operates a worldwide chain of commissaries that provide groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families through a safe and secure shopping environment. Shoppers purchase items at cost plus a 5% surcharge, which covers costs of new commissaries and modernizing existing ones.

Troops To Teachers

Troops to Teachers (TTT) was established in 1994 as a Department of Defense program to assist eligible military personnel to transition into becoming public school teachers within targeted schools. The program also helps relieve schools of teacher shortages, especially in math, science, special education and other critical subject areas, and provides a means for military personnel to transition into a second career in education.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The Veterans of Foreign Wars traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service. The VFW has been instrumental in the establishment of the Veterans Administration, creation of a GI bill for the 20th century and many other items benefiting military veterans.
